Week 9 NFL Picks

And so it begins - another NFL Sunday. Last week was a superb week for Vegas with many people (including both of the CONC writers) struggling mightily with their picks. With a lot of high point spreads this week, it could come down to a few garbage time touchdowns to determine wins and losses. That said, here are our Week 9 picks. Feel free to fade, it may not be a bad strategy after our Week 8 performance.

Brett:

Would I rather have John Skelton or dead comedian Red Skelton? It's a toss-up.
1. St. Louis +2.5 at Arizona - One week ago I would never have touched this game, but knowing how St. Louis played against the Saints and that Kevin Kolb is sidelined, I'll take St. Louis with the points. They say not to pick road teams unless you think they can win outright, but the Rams can certainly do that today.

2. San Francisco at Washington Under 37.5 - Two of the better defenses in the league with one of the league's worst offenses. The 49ers will run Frank Gore early and often and will try to control the clock with sustained drives. Washington will have trouble even moving the ball. I think this line seems a little high. Go with the Under.

3. Miami at Kansas City Under 40.5 - Again, two not-so-good offenses meeting in this game. Miami gives up the most 20+ yard plays in the league, but Kansas City (without Charles) isn't really a big play offense. I see a possibly low-scoring, close game.

4. NY Giants + 9 at New England - I am very scared we may see the 2007 Patriots in this game, but their defense is absolutely miserable (last in the NFL in total yards). Anything more than a TD seems too much to lay for them, so I'll take the points.

5. Pittsburgh -3 vs. Baltimore - Joe Flacco, as previously touched on by us, stinks. Big Ben had a miserable first game against the Ravens, but the gameplan will be much better this time around. I'll take the Steelers to cover 3.

Kyle:
With my 0-5 week last week, it's time to switch it up. I'm picking all over/unders this week.
So here goes:

1.) St. Louis at Arizona Under 41.5. John Skelton and AJ Feeley. Enough said.

2.) Tampa Bay at New Orleans Under 50.5. This seems like a lot of points to me, and I don't think Tampa can put up their end of the bargain to help get the total into the 50's.

3.) Seattle at Dallas Over 45. Look for Romonster and the Cowboys to get back on track here against the scrubby Seahawks secondary. They'll get up to an early big lead and Tavaris Jackson, who has surprisingly been putting up some decent numbers, will put up some garbage points to make this one go over.

4.) Denver at Oakland Under 42.5. The Tebows come in off a disgusting loss at Detroit last week losing by over 30 points. They will play a little better defensively and limit the scoring of the McFaddenless Raiders. Oh yea, and Carson Palmer is at the helm for Oakland. Yet another reason to go under here.

5.) Chicago at Philly Over 47. Last year, when the Bears faced off against the Eagles, they combined for a solid total of 57 points last year. Look for that to be the case again this year with Matt Forte being to run all over the Eagles weak front. And Michael Vick is back folks, so that always helps.
