Bye Bye Todd Haley

The Kansas City Chiefs announced this morning that head coach Todd Haley was being relieved from his duties effective immediately. Good to see karma bite Haley in the ass on this one. Haley is known for being one of the most egotistical guys in the league even though he is only 19-27 as a head coach. Most of those wins came last year when the Chiefs won the division but I don't think you can credit Haley too much for that one. If anything he held them back with some of his decisions. The best example of his poor choices is how he uses his running backs. Lets look back at how he used his RBs the during his 3 years in Kansas City.

2009:
Jamaal Charles 192 carries, 1120 yards, 5.9 YPC, 7 TDs.
Larry Johnson 132 carries, 377 yards, 2.9 YPC, 0 TDs.

All of those carries for LJ come in the 1st 7 games of the year before he is cut by the team for detrimental to the team. LJ blasted Haley on twitter and called him a gay slur to the media a week before he was cut. If LJ doesn't have this outburst he might have spent the whole season with the team most likely. Not sure what Haley was watching in camp but he should have noticed that LJ was done and that Charles was ready to bust out.

2010:
Thomas Jones 245 carries, 896 yards, 3.7 YPC, 6 TDs.
Jamaal Charles 230 carries, 1467 yards, 6.4 YPC, 5 TDs.
Dexter Mccluster 18 carries, 71 yards, 3.9 YPC, 0 TDs.

That's right, even though Charles was having one of the best running back seasons of all time he didn't get the most carries on his own team. Even though Charles had an amazing season in 2009, Haley didn't give him 20 carries until week 8. Charles had 238 total yards in that game and the Chiefs won. So what did Haley give Charles in the next game? 10 carries and they lost in overtime. Charles had 5.3 a carry that game but I guess that wasn't good enough. He decided he was much better off going with Thomas Jones that game. Jones had 19 carries for 32 yards, 1.7 YPC. Solid decision making there Todd.

Now some people might say that Haley was saving Charles for the playoffs but unfortunately that was not the case. Charles had an early 41 yard touchdown run against the ravens but only got 9 carries on the day. In a game that was close until the end of the 3rd quarter, Haley decided to put the ball in the hands of his terrible QB, Matt Cassel, and not in the hands of his pro bowl RB. Cassel had a 20.4 rating on the day. ooops.

Another odd bit of coaching was the usage of rookie Dexter Mccluster. The Chiefs used the 36th overall pick on him but only gave him 39 touches on the season. You would think you would want to get an explosive guy like that in the field but I guess not. Mccluster proved his talents early in the year with an impressive 31 yard TD catch and run in week 3. That wasn't good enough for Haley though and he just couldn't find a way to get Dexter on the field over studs like Thomas Jones.

2011:
Jackie Battle, 125 carries, 504 yards, 4.0 YPC, 1 TD.
Thomas Jones, 112 carries, 337 yards, 3.0 YPC, 0 TDs.
Dexter Mccluster, 94 carries, 426 yards, 4.5 YPC, 0 TDs.

Another year of Haley giving a ton of carries to Thomas Jones who is now 33 years old. Jones is coming off an epic 3 game stretch where he had 13 for 37, 16 for 36 and 5 for 12. Jones has actually finished 9 of the 13 games with a YPC under 3. That's the kind of guy I would want to get the ball too, smart thinking Todd. For those of you scoring at home, in Jones 2 years with the Chiefs he has 234 yards less than Charles did in just his 2010 season on 127 more carries. That's Todd Haley getting the ball to his playmakers.

Haley has had many other blunders as a head coach but the RB situation was the funniest and most idiotic of them all. The Chiefs actually didn't even want Haley as their head coach. When they 1st interviewed him they didn't think he was ready to be a head coach but after every other coach in the league turned them down they told Haley he could have the job if he did it for cheap. Haley's rise to being a head coach was pretty ridiculous. He went from Cowboys WR coach in 2006 to Cardinals offensive coordinator for 2 years and then the chiefs gave him the head coaching job.

Haley is a moron and an egomaniac. Hopefully this situation humbles him a bit and then maybe he can become a decent coach. I highly doubt that though.

Mccluster doesn't look explosive at all, I wouldn't get the ball to him either.
