Ryan Braun tests positive for PEDs

Reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and will be suspended for the 1st 50 games of next season. This comes as a complete shock to the baseball world. Braun was poised to become the face of the NL but now MLB has a PR nightmare on their hands. Braun is appealing the failed test but his chances off winning that appeal are next to nothing. Lucky for the NBA this pushes the Chris Paul disaster to the back burner in the national media. The worst part is that Braun had already been informed that he failed the drug test when he accepted the MVP award. Leagues need to starting taking individual awards away from guys who fail drugs tests in that season. In 2006 the NFL faced the same situation with Shawne Merriman but still allowed him to be a pro bowler. I don't think you should be getting awards when you are cheating.

This is also very bad news for anyone who owns Braun in keeper fantasy leagues. He will now miss 1/3 of the season and might not be keepable in many leagues. It also doesn't look good for the Brewers who will most likely be losing Prince Fielder to free agency. The middle of their lineup will be looking pretty weak when we start the season next year.
